Having had to travel a lot by train in the last months, especially on the Bucharest-Brasov route, I thought I would share some tips, which I also discovered along the way.
If a road by tram, bus, subway takes a quarter of an hour and can be interrupted whenever you want, well, the train journey can last from 2 to 10 hours. Moreover, your escape options are virtually non-existent. Once on the train you are at the discretion of the one who joins you, opposite or diagonally.
It often happens that the travel mates to be totally boring, uninteresting or stressful. The solution is music. All you need is a pair of headphones, an mp3 player, volume at max, and you will be able to isolate yourself, at least partially, from what is happening in the real world.
Don’t forget to take a packet of scented napkins from home because it is not known what smells you will have to deal with on the train. A good idea would be to get newspapers, magazines, or a good book from your home library at the train station.
Ideally it would be a laptop and possibly a wireless modem, the opportunities to kill time being limitless. That being said, all I can do is wish you good luck!
